How AI describes your brand, mapped against the positioning you set. Illustrative data.
The Perception Challenge

Sentiment tells you the tone. It doesn't tell you the positioning.

Most AI visibility tools stop at sentiment. They tell you whether your brand was mentioned, whether the tone was positive or negative, how that compares to competitors, and how it moves over time. Useful, but it answers a shallow question.

The strategic question is different: when AI models describe your brand, do they reflect the positioning you have worked to build? A brand can enjoy positive sentiment and still be positioned wrong, perceived as accessible when it sells premium, or conventional when it leads on innovation.

Brand Voice Alignment reframes perception around your intent. You define the attributes that define your brand and weight them by priority. We then read the language AI models actually use and measure the distance between your desired positioning and the one users receive.

The result is a positioning map that shows where AI perception aligns with your strategy, and where the dissonances are wide enough to act on.

Workflow

How it works

Step 01 · Define your attributes

Choose up to eight positioning attributes that define how your brand wants to be perceived in its category. Six to eight is the sweet spot. In automotive, that might be luxury, performance, or innovation; in software, reliability or design.

Step 02 · Set strategic priorities

Assign each attribute a priority from 1 to 5 based on how central it is to your positioning. An ultra-premium brand sets luxury to 5; a high but not extreme segment might set it to 4. Priorities shape your target profile and decide which gaps matter most.

Step 03 · Semantic perception analysis

We analyse every AI response already collected for your brand at the semantic level, mapping the language models use onto your configured attributes to build a perceived positioning profile across the models you track.

Step 04 · Map the dissonances

Your desired profile is overlaid against the perceived one. Each attribute shows a priority-weighted gap, so you see exactly where AI perception drifts from intent and how wide the most important dissonances are.

Step 05 · Activate the narrative

Brand Voice Alignment shows you which attributes are misaligned and how wide each gap is. Pair it with Grounding Source Prominence to identify which media and domains are shaping that narrative, then activate strategies to steer perception toward your desired positioning.

Personal Insight

“A positive mention is not the same as the right one.
Brands win when AI repeats their positioning, not just their name.”

For years, brand teams measured perception through surveys and social listening. AI search changes the surface where perception is formed. When a model summarises your category, it is making positioning decisions on your behalf, and most brands have no idea what those decisions are.

Sentiment is the easy metric to ship, so most tools stop there. But a brand can be liked and still be misplaced. The expensive failures are the silent ones: the premium brand AI keeps describing as a value option, the innovator it frames as a follower.

That is why we built this around intent. You tell us what you stand for and how much each attribute matters, and we measure the distance to how AI actually positions you. The gap is the work.

Perception in AI is not fixed. It is downstream of the sources models read. Once you can see the dissonance, you can act on the narrative that produced it, and that is where Brand Voice Alignment turns a metric into a strategy.

Everything you need to know about Brand Voice Alignment and positioning attribute analysis.

The Method

Brand Voice Alignment is a module inside Prominence AI's Brand Perception suite. It goes beyond classic sentiment analysis. Instead of only telling you whether a model mentioned your brand positively or negatively, it measures how AI models position your brand against the strategic positioning attributes you actually care about, and shows you where perception diverges from intent.
Sentiment analysis answers a narrow question: is the tone around my brand positive, neutral, or negative? Brand Voice Alignment answers a strategic one: do AI models describe my brand the way I want to be positioned? You define attributes such as luxury, innovation, or sustainability, set their priority, and we measure the gap between your desired positioning and the perception AI models project to users.
Positioning attributes are the strategic qualities that define how your brand wants to be perceived in its category. In automotive, an attribute might be luxury or performance. In software, it might be reliability or innovation. You configure the attributes that matter to your brand and assign each one a priority, and we analyse how strongly AI models associate your brand with each of them.
The scores are derived from semantic analysis of the AI responses already collected for your brand across the models you track. We do not run a separate survey. We read the language models actually use when they describe your brand and category, then map it against your configured attributes to build a perceived positioning profile.

Setup & Priorities

You can define up to eight positioning attributes. We recommend between six and eight. Fewer than six tends to leave your positioning underspecified, and more than eight dilutes focus and makes the gaps harder to act on.
Each attribute is assigned a priority from 1 to 5 that reflects how central it is to your positioning. For example, an ultra-premium automotive brand might set luxury to 5 out of 5, while a brand competing in a high but not extreme segment might set it to 4. Priorities shape your target profile and determine which dissonances matter most, so a large gap on a priority-5 attribute is flagged ahead of a similar gap on a priority-2 one.
Yes. Positioning evolves, and so should the configuration. You can add, remove, or re-prioritise attributes as your strategy shifts, and the alignment analysis updates accordingly so you can track whether your repositioning efforts are landing in AI answers.

Acting on Results

You get a positioning map comparing your desired profile against the perception AI models project, an alignment score, and a per-attribute breakdown of the gaps. Each gap shows how far the perceived positioning sits from your target and is weighted by the priority you set, so you immediately see which dissonances are worth acting on first.
Brand Voice Alignment shows you where the gaps are, not which specific sources caused them. To connect the two, pair it with Grounding Source Prominence: the dissonance tells you which attributes are misaligned, and GSP reveals which domains and media are shaping the narrative in your category. Read together, they point you to where to act. Closing a gap is a content and narrative exercise, not a one-time setting.
Brand Voice Alignment runs across the AI platforms you already track in Prominence AI: ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, and Copilot. You can segment the analysis by model and by market to see whether your positioning holds consistently or drifts in specific contexts.
