The Paid Black Box

Paid placements are already live inside ChatGPT answers in the US.

Sponsored placements inside generative answers are no longer an experiment. They are live in the US, with early rollouts in markets like Korea, Australia, and the UK, and in monetized categories the share of responses carrying an ad is climbing week over week.

Every one of those placements is shelf space someone is buying in your category. Without visibility into that layer, you cannot tell whether your spend duplicates territory you already win organically, which territories rivals are buying, or what strategy sits behind their campaigns.

ChatGPT Ads was built to open that box: every placement collected, decoded, and crossed with the organic data Prominence already tracks for you.

New Metrics

Five metrics for the paid layer.

Ad Trigger Rate

Share of responses in your category that include a paid placement.

Responses with Ads

Volume of answers carrying sponsored inserts, tracked over time.

Ad-activating Prompts

The exact queries that pull an ad into the answer.

Unique Advertisers

Brands and retailers found buying presence in your territory.

Network Share

How ads are bought, from OpenAI Direct to retail media.

Down to the exact prompt that fired the ad

Ads do not appear at random. The Prompts view lists every query that activates a paid placement, with the advertisers competing on it, impression counts, and the network serving each one. Prompt by prompt, you see which terms attract the most advertisers.

Organic vs Paid

Where paid meets organic, budgets are won or lost.

ChatGPT Ads crosses every paid signal with the organic data Prominence already tracks for you: your Share of Answer, your mentions, your visibility. The result is a map of your category with both layers on the same axes.

Stop paying for owned demand

Detect cannibalization risk where you already win the organic answer, and free that budget for territory you actually need to buy.

Find paid-only gaps

Spot the territories where rivals are buying a presence they have not earned. Each one is an organic opportunity with proven commercial intent.

Read your rivals' dependence

See who lives on paid, who lives on organic, and where each competitor is exposed as the channel evolves.

Personal Insight

"The most expensive mistake in this channel will be paying for demand you already own."

Paid inserts in generative answers are being tested and rolled out right now, and we are already seeing relevant activity in markets like the US, Korea, Australia, and the UK. This matters before the budgets move.

If brands are going to activate paid campaigns inside ChatGPT, the key is reading the gaps and the opportunities: decoding what competitors are doing, spotting bad investments early, and avoiding cannibalization of territories the organic answer already gives you.

ChatGPT Ads brings light into that black box. Beyond the generative answer, you get the full picture of the ecosystem: the retailers, the networks, and the players you need to start monitoring. The complete photo to dominate the AI Search channel.

ChatGPT Ads Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about monitoring paid placements in ChatGPT responses.

ChatGPT Ads

ChatGPT Ads is a module inside Prominence AI that monitors the sponsored placements appearing in ChatGPT responses. It tracks how often ads show up in your category, which prompts trigger them, which advertisers and retailers are behind them, the creatives and campaigns they run, and how all of that overlaps with your organic visibility.
Today the module covers ChatGPT in the United States, where paid placements are already live at meaningful volume. OpenAI is rolling ads out to more markets, and we are seeing early activity in Korea, Australia, and the UK. As paid placements mature on other engines and markets, they will be incorporated into the same module.
Any sponsored insertion we detect inside a collected response: product carousels, sponsored recommendations, and other paid formats. For each one we capture the creative, the advertiser, the destination URL with its tracking parameters, and the prompt that triggered it.
Ad Trigger Rate is the share of collected responses in your category that contain at least one paid placement. It is the headline measure of ad pressure: how much of your territory is being monetized, and how fast that is growing.
Yes, down to the individual query. The Prompts view lists every ad-activating prompt in your tracked segments, with the advertisers competing on it, impression counts, and the ad network serving each placement. It works for any advertiser in your category, yours or a competitor's.
We decode the tracking parameters on every ad destination to attribute the buying route: direct activations with OpenAI, retail media networks such as Criteo, and placements whose source is not yet disclosed, which we label as unknown. The network mix tells you how the paid ecosystem in your category is being bought.
It crosses the paid data with the organic metrics Prominence already tracks for you: Share of Answer and brand mentions. Each brand in your category is mapped by organic strength against paid ad share, surfacing cannibalization risk (paying for answers you already win), paid-only gaps (rivals buying presence they have not earned), and organic strengths worth protecting.
Yes. Prompts, advertisers, creatives, and campaign-level data are all exportable via CSV, and the views are navigable down to the individual creative and its decoded campaign parameters.
