Share of Mentions

Share of Mentions captures how much of the conversation you own how often AI answers mention your brand compared with everyone else in your category.

What is Share of Mentions?

Share of Mentions is your slice of all the brand mentions AI models make in your category. If a set of answers names ten brands fifty times in total and eight of those mentions are you, your Share of Mentions is 16%.

It is the AI-era version of share of voice: not just whether you are present, but how much of the conversation you command relative to competitors.

How it differs from Share of Answers

Share of Answers tells you in how many answers you appear. Share of Mentions tells you how loudly how often you are named, and how that volume stacks up against rivals across the same set of answers.

Together they separate presence from dominance: you might be present in most answers yet still be out-mentioned by a competitor that the model returns to again and again.

Why it matters

AI answers are zero-sum: the more a model leans on a competitor, the less room there is for you. Tracking Share of Mentions turns AI Visibility into a competitive scoreboard and shows whether your GEO work is actually shifting the balance in your favour.

How Prominence AI tracks it

Prominence AI measures Share of Mentions against the competitor set you define, across every major engine, inside Metrics & Benchmarking. We introduced the metric in more depth on the blog Introducing Share of Mentions.
